Judge Orders President Biden To Continue Trump’s “Remain In Mexico” Plan
If you haven’t been living under a rock for the last six months, then you’re probably aware of the major crisis occurring at our southern border. As horrible as the situation is, I can at least share one slightly positive advancement that was just made thanks to a judge in northern Texas: the “remain in Mexico” protocol set by President Trump is back!
Back when President Trump was in office, he ended the “catch and release” protocol that allowed migrants coming to the United States to claim asylum to be released freely into the country as they waited for the courts to determine the legality of their asylum claims.
Trump’s replacement plan was called the Migrant Protection Protocols (MMP), and was nicknamed the “remain in Mexico” policy. Migrants applying for asylum were instead required to stay in Mexico until granted asylum status, instead of being allowed to roam around America without legal status.
President Biden suspended the enforcement of MPP when he came to office in January and officially ended enforcement in June 2021.
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt filed the lawsuit against the Biden Administration that led to the federal judge, U.S. District Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk, ordering Biden to reinstate the MMP.
The crisis at the border is disturbing, and while this may seem like a small victory, it’s at least one step forward in 1. Holding the Biden Administration accountable for their terrible leadership, and 2. Protecting American citizens from any harm potentially coming across the southern border.
